Couples Winter Weekend Retreat in Sheboygan
Couples Winter Weekend Retreat in Sheboygan
It’s time to get away, let’s face it. The holidays are over, winter is beginning to feel long and dull, Valentines is around the corner, and that leaves many of us in need for an escape to break up this last month of winter. A weekend in a new place with new winter activities to try is just the remedy you and your partner need. A short drive north of Milwaukee, alongside the shores of Lake Michigan, is the city of Sheboygan. A Midwest beach town known for being the Malibu of the Midwest, arriving in town will make you question whether or not you are still in Wisconsin. Although it’s not a tropical beach, there are plenty of cozy date activities for couples in Sheboygan this winter, and it’s just the escapism you’ve been searching for.
Fine Dining
Blue Harbor Resort’s Beacon Restaurant is an excellent destination for a romantic dinner for two with lakeside views and private seating for an intimate atmosphere. Although Beacon is open during weekends throughout the winter, February 9th & 10th, the 14th, 16th & 17th a special and limited Valentines menu will be served. Select your choice of starter: a savory rosemary baked brie, or a sweet lemon pistachio salad, and then your choice of entrée: Pork Osso Bucco or Tuscan Salmon. You and your partner will want to linger at the table all night long over these warm and delicious dishes. Pour the wine, cue the flickering candle, and enjoy each other’s company while relaxing in a front seat view of Lake Michigan. These Valentines feature dishes are sure to warm you up from the inside out and make for a memorable date night. It’s a dining experience you can’t afford to miss on your Sheboygan Winter Weekend Getaway.
Escape the Freeze
While you’re at Blue Harbor, escape the chilly winter temperatures and take a dip in the waterpark, which is at a steady 82 degrees year-round. Whether you and your partner want to race down waterslides or relax in a hot tub, there’s hot summer fun awaiting you in Breaker Bay Waterpark. Cruise down the lazy river and enjoy a snack or adult beverage from the Rocky Bottom Snack Bar in between rides. The snack bar is open during waterpark hours, which during the winter, are confined to weekend fun. Breaker Bay feels like escaping to the tropics, and with all the waterpark features surrounding you and your partner, embrace the excitement and let your inner child loose. Who doesn’t enjoy splashing around in the pool, racing down waterslides, or chasing each other’s floats down the lazy river moat? Your Sheboygan getaway is all about you and your significant other, so indulge in playfulness and fun for an afternoon!
…Or Embrace It
Maybe the icy route is more your forte, after all, winter only comes once a year. To embrace the chilly and cozy season, head over to the Sheboygan Lakers Ice Center for an ice skating date with your partner. The ice center holds public skating on Fridays and Sundays this winter. Sunday public skate is from 1:30-3:00 P.M, however, on Fridays you can skate during that time bracket or you can elect to go night skating from 8:00-10:00 P.M. There is no need to be an ice-skating pro, the public skate is open to all ages and experience. Take a couple loops around the rink side by side, and finish off your skate date with a rich hot cocoa after. What better time of year is there to layer up in your comfiest sweatshirt, hold cold hands, and sip steaming hot drinks?
3 Sheeps Brewery
It’s 5 O’clock somewhere, and happy hour at 3 Sheeps Brewery is a must on your list of Sheboygan destinations. This famous brewery is a neat and casual hang out spot for drinks, conversation, and games. The space is large and accommodating, there is a variety of seating including tented seating outdoors. Although they are best known for their beer brews, if beer isn’t for you or you have a gluten sensitivity, 3 Sheeps also has their own line of gluten-free hard seltzers called Cloudless. Cloudless comes in five fruity flavors: wild berry, tropical, mango and lychee, pineapple and yuzu, and clearly citrus. The atmosphere is perfect for a chill evening of drinks before ordering pizza delivery from Faye’s Pizza (which is delivered right to 3 Sheeps) or moving on to the rest of your evening date plans.
Bookstores and Board Games
Looking for a Saturday or Sunday morning activity to explore together? Sheboygan has a couple of well-loved game shops and bookstores that make for a day full of relaxation and indulging in your hobbies or an afternoon of playfulness. Head to WordHaven Bookstore on 8th street to pick out a new book. The winter is the coziest time to hunker down, curl up with your significant other under a cozy blanket by the fireside with a good book. If you really want to make your book shopping experience unique and fun, you and your partner could pick out a book for each other and do a surprise reveal either before or after purchasing your book. WordHaven has a selection of new books on their main level, but if you head down to the basement, you’ll find a collection of used books to choose from. Inklings Bookstore on South Pier is a used and vintage bookshop, and a must-see if you are a book collector or have an appreciation for old antique books and book sets. Once your books have been picked, head up the street to The GameBoard to discover a new two player game to hunker down indoors and play. Turn it into a couple’s game-night-in with mixed drinks, music on a portable speaker, and pajamas.
