Wisconsin Supper Clubs

Quintessential Wisconsin Supper Club Experiences

If you’re not from Wisconsin, you may be wondering “What are supper clubs?” These restaurants are typically family-owned, offering a combination of fine dining along with a casual atmosphere and old-fashioned hospitality.

Many supper clubs have a nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of the mid-20th century, when supper clubs were at their prime. They often feature dim lighting, cozy décor, and elements like wood paneling, leather booths, and a fireplace, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

A separate lounge area or bar is a critical element where patrons can gather to socialize and unwind, because a supper club is more than just a restaurant, it’s a place for generations to gather, to host celebrations, to meet new friends or catch up with old. At a supper club, you’re in for a leisurely dining experience where you can relax and enjoy your meal with good company without feeling rushed. You’re actually encouraged to linger over drinks before, during, and after your meal!

At a Wisconsin Supper Club, you're likely to start your evening with cocktails like a Brandy Old Fashioned at the bar before heading to the salad bar or being served a relish tray alongside homemade soups, including French onion. Entrée selections usually feature a fish fry, prime rib, steak, seafood, and traditional comfort foods like fried chicken, pot roast, mashed potatoes, and if you're lucky... combo plates! For dessert, ice cream drinks like a pink squirrel or grasshopper are an absolute must.

The bottom line is, Wisconsin supper clubs offer more than just a meal; they provide an opportunity to step back in time, enjoy classic cuisine, and connect with others in a welcoming and comfortable setting.

Schwarz's Supper Club is located in Calumet County, the Supper Club capitol of the Midwest. A family-run establishment, Schwarz's is special because it has been home to generations of families with long-time employees who feel like family. They also stand out for their steaks, which are hand-cut on site. They go through a ton of meat a week, 900 pounds of which is their prime rib.

It may stound strange, but you have to try Grandma Schwarz's pickled mushrooms in your old fashioned. They debuted back in 1957 and today they mix up ten pounds of these sweet pickled mushrooms every week, so they must be doing something right. You can even buy a jar to take home with you.

For dessert, try their signature Desperate House Wife with chocolate liquor, vanilla vodka, and ice cream, served in a martini glass with chocolate on the bottom and chocolate on top.

Jim Koenigs and Linda Meyer, at just 19 and 20 years old respectively, purchased the business known as Harry's Lakeview in 1978.  No more than a modified cottage, the restaurant featured a small bar with 11 barstools and 28 chairs in two tiny dining rooms, andda small attached kitchen and salad area. At that time, Linda handled most of the serving and Jim was at the helm as bartender. After purchasing the real estate in 1984 and two rounds of expansions, today you'll find a full bar with 100 seats in the dining space.

Jim and Linda attribute their success to serving good food and cocktails at a fair price, in a casual atmosphere with some incredible sunsets over Lake Winnebago. With an elegant setting about 30 feet from the shore of Lake Winnebago, Jim and Linda's Lakeview Supper Club offers beautiful views for sunset dinners. They feature an extensive menu specializing in prime rib and generous cut tender filets and strip steaks, hand-trimmed and cooked to your order and seafood including Pesto Crusted Salmon, Shrimp, Scallops, South African Lobster Tail, and Alaskan King Crab (when available).

In addition to their famous prime rib and seafood, they offer a wide selection of appetizers, sandwiches, steaks, entrées and desserts you're sure to enjoy. Highlights include tantalizing appetizers such as Chicken Caesar Flatbread, Garlic & Herb Mussels, or a Blooming Onion.

Jim and Linda's Lakeview Supper Club also features seating on an outdoor patio during the summer with live music on the weekends starting Memorial Day weekend and they are accessible by boat on the lake!
