(SHEBOYGAN, WIS.) – A year ago this June, the magnificent Blue Harbor Resort & Conference Center opened its doors in the Harbor Centre District of Sheboygan, Wis. Once a storage site for coal and clay, the Lake Michigan shoreline has been transformed into a breathtaking Grand Victorian resort, where hundreds of thousands of people have enjoyed the 84-degree getaway, year-round. Since that opening nearly 200,000 guests have experienced the nautical décor, stood under the 1,000-gallon “sinking ship,” saw the world’s largest hand-blown glass fountain, and created hundreds of thousands of family fun memories. On June 8, it will be exactly one year since developers, Great Wolf Resorts, Inc. of Madison, Wis., area business owners, dignitaries and members of the press raised a glass of champagne and toasted to a successful grand opening. In the year that has followed, Blue Harbor Resort has helped celebrate countless extended family reunions, anniversaries, birthdays and weddings, hosted numerous conferences, and welcomed hundreds of excited youth groups and school children. Kim Schaefer, Great Wolf Resorts’ chief operating officer, said Blue Harbor Resort’s success could be attributed to strong marketing efforts and its relationship with the community. “Anytime you introduce a new concept to a community, there’s going to be growing pains. But we have met our expectations,” said Schaefer.
“Our management team has done an excellent job and the community has been a great partner.” Blue Harbor Resort’s involvement with the community began when it was a major sponsor to both the Jaycees and Lakeshore Technical College golf tournaments, but has grown to include major sponsorships, such as Lakefest, the annual family festival held in August; the Fourth of July celebration put on by the city of Sheboygan; and the annual Rockets for Schools, an educational program for middle and high school students to launch the scale-model rockets they construct. A grand celebration June 6th – 11th will commemorate the anniversary. Guests staying at Blue Harbor Resort on the 8th will be greeted by balloons as they enter the Grand Lobby and are invited to celebrate with birthday cake, popcorn and refreshments. As a tribute to the one-year anniversary, families can test their knowledge by participating in Blue Harbor Resort trivia on Friday from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. In addition to the one-year anniversary celebration, Blue Harbor Resort is offering a $99 special June 6th – 8th on guest suites, excluding the Presidential, Captain’s and Condo Suites. On the 6th, two drawings will be held for an upgrade to a Presidential Suite, and on the 8th four drawings will be made. In honor of their first birthday, Blue Harbor Resort’s mascots, Molly the Mermaid and Snapper the Turtle, will be making a grand entrance on June 11th. The day before their guest appearance, kids are invited to join in the celebration by helping to decorate a banner from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. in the Crew Club activity room. Beginning at 1:30 p.m. on the 11th, kids can help decorate the Grand Lobby for a surprise birthday party for Molly and Snapper. Then, at 2 p.m. when Molly and Snapper arrive, guests can celebrate with them and enjoy birthday cake, popcorn, music, games and crafts. Afterwards, guests can take part in the scavenger hunt, where one family will win a one-night stay at Blue Harbor Resort this fall.
